Can people who aren't gifted or talented learn how to draw? I mean, people who aren't born with the ability to visualize or otherwise lack spatial reasoning, or other genes that make art come easily to someone.

Anyone can learn to draw. The biggest obstacle that prevents non-gifted would-be artists is that most artists make for bad teachers and either go "just draw lmao" without explaining WHAT EXACTLY TO DO or push constructive drawing (drawabox, KJG, most of the books /ic/ suggests on charts) despite it being the worst possible thing for a beginner to be exposed to.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oSUXnHvV_8MDrawing comes down to a few things:>line control/quality (confident lines, using your shoulder and elbow, a proper grip) and accuracy exercises >continuous line drawing >gesture drawing >drawing basic shapes and simple forms >spending more time looking at your reference than your paperPic related is what I drew today. I was not able to do this three years ago.

Everyone can learn to draw you fucking retard. But the skill ceiling in drawing is so high and steep that not everyone can be a good artist.Even if you are able to draw well by magical wonder, this still doesn't mean that you are a good artist because good artists don't just draw well, they are also incredibly productive which is a whole other level. Most people have no idea how difficult it is to get to such level.

So basically you gotta separate the technical side from the ideation. The technical side the mechanics of drawing, stuff like knowing your tools, understanding how light and shadow create forms, composition, color theory. That side is pretty straight forward(although time consuming) to learn. Any tutorial you can find will help you with this. My tip is drawing what is actually there via observation instead of drawing what you think is there. The ideation side is a bit more tough, it's basically stuff like taste, differentiating what is good/bad, knowing what to draw. That's the part that takes a whole lifetime to learn and it constantly changes. The technical side also informs this, as you learn to replicate forms you will start seeing the faults in your previous drawings, which is great because you are improving. So all in all, talent is not something you either have or don't, it is comprised out of a lot of factors, including how much you draw, how serious you are about getting better, the way you grew up, what you found important, how much you worked on a skill, how much of your daily life can be applied to it. Some people are good artists because they had the opportunity to express themselves in a visual medium while growing up. So yes, probably anyone can learn to draw.

The average person is literally mentally disabled. They could never become a good artist. You need have at least a certain level of intelligence and logic to good at this.

Probably yes, but you will need a long time, and that's why you had to start when you were 4 years old.

My spacial reasoning skills are abysmal dogshit. I literally do just good enough to accomplish my goals, but everything about my abilities are terrible. The thing is if you want anything you just have to power through it even if that means you won't be a master, if it's enough to meet your goals then you don't have to be one.

Talent is just a measure of how intuitively you can pick up a skill, it's completely possible to match it with sheer brute force and effort

What midwits don't understand is art is a combination of many many different skills and your brain can naturally work the way that picks up some better and some worse >the way you perceive colors >spatial reasoning >seeing and understanding shapes >perceiving human faces and bodies >visual memory >hand eye coordination >visualisation >sense of style and appeal etc. etc. You can be better in some areas and worse in others. Good artists you see just found their strength and play around their weaknesses. For instance I see a lot of begs upset they can't draw any pose from imagination while good artists they admire don't even bother with it and just copy references 1-1 for everything, completely forgoing having to construct visual library, imagine pose and perspective, remember anatomy, project lighting. There's only a handful of people who get born with brains hardwired to quickly pick up every skill in art. And there's only a handful of people who lack everything needed for art. Chances are you have the same level of talent as someone making thousands on patreon, you just don't know how to work around your weaknesses and play into your strength.

I will not be baited into attacking your retarded strawman, I will simply direct you to hitler as the ultimate example that lack of talent cannot be overcome with intelligence.Ultimately the only way to determine talent is after somebody has already made it or given up.
