what do I do if I can't decide on a model? I want someone who draws loli, but many I like don't seem to share their sketches or simplified drawing styles so it's incredibly difficult to study them as a supreme beginner.

Tried copying them using guidelines then did them by memory; it's so hard to get the anime head shape. I always think about trying to draw a real face silhouette;I tried human face -> anime and it was terrible.

Vagabond Study. i dont know what i was thinking last night, by starting and maybe even finishing to study/copy a whole volume or chapter of Vagabond, but after like 7 hours i couldnt even get the panel size right, let alone capture Takezos likeness (second to last panel) and now i got some thick callous on me thumb. it was an interesting endurance experiment though, i think i'll try focusing on non-painted, singled out pages in the future

As a thesis I'm not sure copying anime is the way to go. Anime is drawn by people who did extensive life drawings and study. if you copy anime instead of real life then the art will just degenerate.

although I guess it depends, when youre starting out its probably better to weight studying higher a bit. As long as you dont just fall into the study trap where youre not actually making anything then its probably fine

I think the thing that trips me up the most as someone whose experimenting with anime style after drawing cartoons mainly is the facial proportion/ eye sizeSo far every time I sketch a face I need to adjust the eyes down more before it looks "right" I've only been at it for less than a week though so it's just a matter of building that eye for it

Is there actually a digital painting course or books that actually teach more Japanese-style anime-like illustrations? It seems everything like Med’s Map, and Krenz too, teach you the ugly disgusting painterly brushy concept art-y style. Not sure how to describe it. Like the stuff Neg’s Illustration paint on youtube.
