I’m going to finish uni in 4 months or so. I really need to make it with my drawings because there are no jobs in my field of study. Any ideas on how to make it in such a short time? After several years, I was thinking of opening my first Twitter and BlueSky accounts, but I have a feeling that my best online friend is going through a tough time. I suspect that his mother may have cancer. I really need to read scientific papers and prepare my final thesis to finish my degree (not art), but instead I procrastinate by putting together an art supply kit for a friend (who draws mostly digitally) + coming up with a versatile palette of Polychromos pencils specifically for her that she'd enjoy using. I'm quite satisfied with the 9 pencils I've selected, and I will draw something for her using this palette before the end of the month.

Has anybody else found themselves growing to dislike high contrast in values in paintings now? I think my brain has started to associate it with cheap and low quality because a lot of AI slop has overblown highlights and crushed darks. It's cuz the designers only had to draw a turnaround in A-pose and could add as much shit and lines and greebles for the modeler to put in...It just doesn't work when doing 2D fanart/illustrations because it's too complex, but omitting a lot of these details kinda ruins the impression of the character...

Finally started to get commissions. Never really could've pictured this back when I started drawing in 2016 or picking it up again for good in 2023, all it really took was find a niche and post on twitter. Not anywhere near being able to earn any decent money but now I know I'm atleast capable of it. Big plus that is also has lead to some art improvements too.

I think I'm going to quit this place for good. I started coming here because I have no artist friends IRL and hoped to enjoy the motivation and inspiration that come with talking about your craft with others. Most other forums are highly censored, are hugboxes and/or require a song and dance to join. So, here I am.But this place is depressing. The same retarded, throwaway topics, over and over. In the threads where people actually draw, it's 95% the most hideous shit imaginable. I don't even mean just in terms of skill, as that would be forgivable. I mean it's the most disgusting, tasteless, porn-brained shit imaginable — AND it's drawn poorly. I'm not a prude, but this place could be exhibit A in the case for banning porn. Also, pedos have their own generals, which are the most active of all on the boards. I don't know what goes on in those generals because I've never looked.Then there's anime. I like anime and manga well enough. I appreciate the skill it takes to draw it well. But anime is not a lifestyle/sexual orientation. So many of the posts here give off "bedroom filled with anime toys, empty Doritos bags and Coke cans on the floor, sex doll on the bed, mom knocking at the door to tell you it's time to eat" vibes. You're supposed to be 18 or older to post here.FWIW, I've tried to answer questions and provide actually helpful advice to people here, and have occasionally even been thanked for it. But the people here who are genuinely interested in learning to draw, and aren't absolute schizos, seem to be a tiny minority. It's too bad. The internet needs something like this, but with a benevolent dictator to act as gatekeeper.

how do you guys draw every day? I'm tired of using psychological tricks like waking up and immediately drawing, or telling myself that I'm just drawing for 5 minutes. I have to spend hours psyching myself up to draw because I'm paying time and energy for happiness which I can get in easier ways. I've lost interest in pretty much every idea I've come up with no matter how small and 'manageable' I've tried to make them. I wanted to so badly make a comic, small game, or any form of story last year but now everything I daydream about I stop and think "Wait a minute, this sucks." and it never goes anywhere.
I'm disappointed in my characters and artstyle and pretty much my entire art journey up to this point and don't feel like doing anything more than scribbles because I don't see myself every improving or being able to do the kind of art I do want to make. I realize why I hate starting a drawing. Its because 99% of drawing is just thinking of what to draw or fixing what you drew. The actual act of creating the lines only happens in an instant and is the only good part of drawing. How do I address “burn out” if that’s the right term. I haven’t drawn a full drawing in three years because I’ve been plagued with perfectionism. Most of what I like to draw is filled with highly technical boomer-slop (I like drawing NDNs and like historical battles and shit), and I just can’t stop thinking that I’ll just do a real drawing after a few more gouache studies. When, I actually try to “just draw”, I get inconsolably upset because of imaginary pressure, and once I even set my bathtub on fire and there are now permanent scorch marks. Have any of you overcame this? Also picrel is what I want to draw like, any tips? It all has such neurotypical boomer aire to it, I don’t know how to replicate it. It’s like how americans draw anime weird but for age.
