Eeeeeh one should focus on liking the subject matter more then the art itself, mostly cause if you really love your subject matter you would want to do it justice, and if you accomplish that the youll end up liking the art too

My stuff doesn't look fully "standard" to me and I'm trying to evaluate if that's even good or not.

I liked my art more when I was “worse” at it. I look at what I drew almost a decade ago in college and what it lacked in technical skill it almost made up for in creativity. Shit, maybe it was just the metric fuckton of acid I was taking. But picrel is something I sketched in a boring 3-hour lecture and I couldn’t imagine coming up with that now. It’s like another person drew it.I’ve gotten back into drawing recently and it’s nice to make gains. I’ve been setting simple goals for myself and achieving them, so in that aspect, I like my art. But there’s something missing that I don’t think I’ll ever see again. I kinda just draw studies and women, and there’s no whimsy or joy in my work nowadays. It’s just compulsion.

Yeah. Though I am not that good at drawing from mind yet. But I am very decent at copying from reference; so I regularly just copy things from pinterest into my sketchbook and now the cool pic I saw is physically in my hand. Pretty awesome!

Thinking in my characters heads have led to interesting situations, each strip composed with a vague idea that dissipates once pen hits paper. Then its a juggle of letting the Art influence the Story, and the Story influencing the Art. A drawing comes out good, then I bend the narrative to include it. Even I never was quite sure how things come about, then whatever does come about is set in Canon stone. I posted the entire strip and more, just for the hell of it earlier this year, and even though I kept saying the point of the strip was NOT trying to sell it to the public, but as a demonstration of this story evolving, as inspiration to other storytellers. Getting stuff on paper is important, if only to the artist. I have 180+ pages of story, spanning a decade, and I followed it, curious about how things turn out.What you draw, can be redrawn.

The best art I've made? I like it! The things I make now? Not so much.The problem is the way I made my best art, I labored over the reference, darkening it, getting the correct shadow shapes using threshold filters planning what I'll do where and then putting the pieces together didn't feel like drawing to me- it felt like putting together a puzzle. I still love how it came out.
My art now on the other hand, there's time I draw like a teenager and then other times where I don't even know how I did what I did.

To me a good metaphor is you'll never like your own voice, but you know when you're eloquent and when you're babbling like a retard.
So be eloquent to the best of your abilities, whatever they are for now and move on to the next piece, it's all you can do.
liking it is not your job, it's up to the viewer, so don't be so neurotic about it

I'm my own biggest fan and love my own work, but am also very critical of it, immediately seeing so many mistakes every time a finish a piece... but I still love it because I made it.
I also go through bouts of just loathing my work too, but those are usually short.The biggest issue is that I can't deal with other people's comments about my work.
If it's criticism, it's all true and I feel like shit.
If it's praise, it's just pleasantries and they didn't really mean it.
If no one says anything, it wasn't good enough to even deserve a comment.
So I try to just post an not think about it, but honestly, even that shit is difficult.So I guess I'm saying I set my relationship status with my art to "It's complicated", haha - so relatable, am I right guys?
