I was in India and the south was way, way more chill than the north. I don't have an answer to your question I'm just confirming your assertion that the south is better despite being way browner. The south is also more conservative and episodes of domestic violence against women are higher. Kind of reminds me of the current Ameri South that seems to be having a upward trend in terms of education levels of it's folks, economic mobility and more.

India knower here. It isnt a north-south divide but more of a polar divide. As you can see here the extremities of India (far North, far East, far West and the South) are much better off than the center. Basically the closer you are to Ganges and the center of Hindu civilization the shittier the life and people.
