>The Filioque (Latin: Filioque, meaning "and from the Son") is an addition to the Latin text of the original Nicene-Constantinopolitan Creed, made in the 7th century by the Western (Roman) Church in the dogma of the Trinity: the procession of the Holy Spirit not only from God the Father, but "from the Father and the Son," and officially adopted by it in the 11th century. The addition served as one of the reasons for the division of the Ecumenical Church and is rejected by the Orthodox Church.

the reason it caused the schism is because Rome argued it had the authority to insert it without consulting anyone else

Presupposing that the Spirit can come from the Son implies that the Son had children, which is literally what some kings used to legitimize their right to rule. It was a corruption of the Church designed to allow for the rule of a special privilege class. Thankfully that claim died out a long time ago, at least they no longer publicly make such claims.
