If all things happen as a result of preexisting physical forces, does that mean everything that happens is inevitable? Are all events simply the next link on a chain connecting the past to the present and extending into the future?

For all intents and purposes yes, but if we argue that free will relies on inherent determinism, and because physical forces are inherently indeterminate but exist within a superposition of probable states, then it's fundamentally impossible to predict everything with 100% certainty, the closest we can get is probably 99%

Yes you can't avoid the inevitable you can't fight the fate etc.
