Religions die once the gap between them and daily life becomes too great to reconcile. This is what happened to Christianity in modernity and paganism in the Roman Empire. Conversely, this is why Christianity thrived so much in the 1600’s or why polytheism thrived among Iron Age tribes.

They need to be applicable to your daily life. They need to match your lived experience. If they don't then they will die. The only way to avoid this predicament is to kill yourself. Otherwise, sorry, but it needs to fit in with real world experiences.

Well, that would explain their longevity. It is very hard for the average person to relate metaphysics or historical events +1000 years ago to their daily life. I bet paganism would still be dominate until the 1600s for the same reason if the abrahamic religion didnt kill them all

Christianity was defeated by comfortable homes and grand libraries, not by an ideological opponent or moral decay. High ceilings, stone and incense were a popular respite from the heat, stench and general squalor of late classical and medieval cities.
The most popular denomination in 2100 will be whichever one first does the theological somersaults to host co-ed goon sessions or orgies in churches. Sterile modern efficiency and loneliness is the new squalor from which people seek respite.

you have the whole image completely inverted, the whole point of religion is to actively mould human life instead of passively submit to circumstances. the reason religion is dying off today is due to intellectual stiffness and structural incentives supporting anti-religious values.
