Guess I forget that graphic designers aren't used to staying up to date on technology, but if you're in this field, you ought to.
The fact that you can do this is fucking unreal. This was like a law of physics that you could scale down, but not up, since the advent of images on computers. But no longer.

aren't the watermarks supereasy to edit out by design so that getty can sue for BIG BUCKS everytime a dumbass uses those images comercially?

Try unsplash or pexels.
unsplash is more no nonsense, pexels requires you to have an account.
just manage your expectations.

the only option is to download a low resolution version of the image you want with some of those websites that remove watermarks and then upload it to an image search engine so you can find a high resolution version that some random website uploaded for free. it works most of the time
