how do I learn to draw scientific diagrams? all gimp tutorials are about modifying a girl's face or somthing, I need to make pretty diagrams picrel was in my master's dissertation bte

gimp is useful for raster images (pixels). You need to work with vectors. Starting with something simple like Inkscape you can get away with a lot of things (including measuring angles, different lines and fixing mistakes waaaaaay forgotten by the Ctrl+Z chain.)
