Working on hiring some folks and I'm doing the initial screens and there's several solid candidates, cool just send them to next round. However it mortifies me knowing at the end of all this, even though they're all capable of doing the job, I can only pick 1 of them. Having to stack rank candidates and offering only the best; it really hurts to have to reject the others. I'm going to plan to draft a personal note for the recruiter to send something like "you're really talented you'll surely find success"

I take my A+ Core 1 test in 8 hours. I got maybe 2 hours of sleep last night.Every practice test I take, I always end up scoring at least an 85%, so I don't know why I'm so worried. (I'm using the exam prepia app) The sleep thing could have also been that two nights previous I pulled an all-nighter to try and fix my schedule, staying up around 33 hours straight, and even driving halfway across town both ways near the end of it without dying. I'll sometimes call myself a functional alcoholic for sleep deprivation, but I don't know how well that actually holds up for anything that requires memorization or focus.Any last words of encouragement or advice? I take the Core 2 test tomorrow. I studied for them both together. I had the cert about eight years ago, when I was a much more lax student, not paying for my own classes, and generally not caring about my future. Now I'm 27, sharing a workspace with other highschool dropouts, and kind of slowly panicking about it.I'm going to drink way too much coffee, eat a high protein breakfast with some fruit to hopefully give myself the energy I need to not completely check out.

I am a 5 year software engineer, I got laid off May 2025 and haven’t been employed as a SWE since. During that time I was trying to find a job, but eventually real life hit me and I need to abandon ship and move back to my hometown with my parent. I want to get back into the field now. I have submitted 87 applications so far, and no callbacks yet. I have tried multiple various ways too. Generic shotgun resume, tailor resume to job description, reach out to recruiters/HM, there are sadly no locally companies but I applied to any job in the US. Hell I even applied to jobs outside of the US. Indeed, Linkedin, YCombinator, nothing. Is my gap too large to make a comeback here? Am I just not trying hard enough?
