>Subtitle writing now goes through SubtitleEdit, which avoids the old SSA to ASS conversion and the loss of styling that came with it.so it will finally play my subs as intended without me needing to transcode fucking finally

Thanks for the heads-up, but I'll probably wait before upgrading because it works just fine for me.

do blind people have to torrent the video files? Or can they get just the audio track? it would be a big waste otherwise

did they fix the fucking database yet? If not I'm out and I'm moving to the rust clone
A
Anon09/08/26, 17:59No.109762249
well at least this is a feature update not a "we rewrote the database again" update
A
Anon09/08/26, 18:01No.109762271
this remains an incredibly stupid decision that they've never justified beyond "lol security is hard"

wake me up for 12.1, only a fool would update to a .0 release after the disaster that was 11.0

Have they changed the thing that when you play a random episode from a show that you had previously marked as complete then it would switch the entire thing as not seen?I usually watch random episodes and this always bothered me

was changing the version scheme really worth the potential breakages it could cause? just seems dumb
why not just go 10.11.11 -> 12.0.0 and call it a day?
A
Anon09/09/26, 02:32No.109766618
I just sent it. Didn't even disable OpenSubtitles, which was probably the only plugin I had. No issues. Read afterwards that you should scan all libraries, so did that. Took a few hours (not seconds like some ledditors claimed with their likely overbuilt machines).Just werks, I dunno. Was a little surprised that a server update changed the client interface a little though.

Guess I'm stuck with the old version

if I just wait a week to update, I'm probably good to just send it right?

>Use minidlna or sftp/smb
>Don't have problems
I still don't know what jellyfin does. I suppose the only benefit I can see is some devices are pure shit and don't support specific containers and codecs and minidlna does not live transcode (which is a good thing imo).

is there a decent stream/torrent plugin out there?
Best I could find was a third party youtube plugin that let me add channels to watch.
I want something that can either stream torrents while they are being downloaded (a la vlc) or even a torrent search. claude suggested I vibecoded a weird workaround using btfs, but there is no way that will be decent. Also claude lectures me about the evils of torrenting and how much of a bad person I am when I try to do that.
It's a shame because setting the server up was a pain and having my own personal goyflix with curated material is nice, but having streams would be perfect.

OK, so this is the major backend rewrite they've been promising for ages?
Does this mean they can finally concentrate on adding features, being less dependent on plugins for functionality and a decent fucking client?
A
Anon09/09/26, 09:09No.109768877
The kitchen sink approach is retarded, I don't need books and comics in fucking Jellyfin, I have perfectly good dedicated services for those and only draws resources away from actually improving the core functionality of video playback.

have they stopped it mysteriously bricking itself?

A
Anon09/10/26, 16:42No.109782280
I get immich because you tend to accumulate tons of pictures, but what’s the use of jellyfin instead of having a few folders called "movies”, "tv shows" etc? Am I missing out on something here? Is it for when you want to play video on your phone and somehow having an always on pc makes more sense than just turning on the computer and sending it wirelessly in like a minute?
A
Anon09/10/26, 17:56No.109782748
I'm kind of a noob, sometimes my movies or videos get a completely wrong metadata inferred (even if the filename/folder is descriptive) is there an easy way to just tell jellyfin which movie it is? I don't want to find metadata from online and have to inject it into a file or something
A
Anon09/10/26, 18:03No.109782793
Give it a few details and it'll turn up results like this for you to choose from.

Have a roku that I use only for streaming jellyfin. Jellyfin is running on my home network. Anyway to mess with my router so the tv has access to the private network but not the internet. There’s no reason it should be able to communicate with roku at all. Maybe just an occasional app update
