That's it, I am finally ditching Windows for Linux, and using VirtualBox for the few Windows apps I can't emulate on Linux. But can't decide the Linux flavor.
I want something that can do it all, browsing, gaming & development.
I am between Mint, CachyOS and Fedora.
Which one should I go for /g/?

Mint: solid OS for anyone rlly, looks a little outdated by default imo and updating to local mirrors works like half the timeCachyOS: no exp with it, only know that Pajeet SomeOrdinaryGamers uses itFedora: Solid OS, looks more modern if you use KDE plasma especially.i personally use arch "btw" tho

No, never use small distros, only the big established ones.
Basically if you want a sane professional experience stick to deb and rpm distros
So Debian, Mint, Ubuntu, Fedora or Opensuse are your choices if you are serious
Arch etc are for children.I personally use Mint but you can't go wrong with either of those.

All three are really good. My recomendation is to decide based on which desktop environment you like more
(kde gnome or cinammon)Mint if cinammon seems nice to you and you want something that just works.Fedora if you dont mind searching a few things to change (like enabling rpm fusion repos). It has both kde and gnome.I dont know catchy, I assune it also just works and has kde or gnome or both.I would pick fedora kde but thats a preference thing.

Mint is kinda bloat, CachyOS is just Arch with a custom kernel, Fedora is run by the company trying to close source their enterprise distro. Pick your poison. Fedora KDE I've heard is good, if you're leaning towards Mint at least do the LMDE version because of Ubuntu, and you can install the CachyOS kernel on vanilla Arch without the extra bloat.

I've been senior at fagman for over 5 years and use unix CLI every day and let me say that when you post on /g/ about linux, actual devs immediately spot you for the larper you are. Genuinely nobody thinks it's impressive. If anything I look down on people who aren't full time tech workers who even think about using linux. Honestly? Just be smart about your partitions, as long as you leave your data and system separated you can install different distros without formatting your whole system.

I've been testing out CachyOS and it's nice. It seems perfect for Windows refugees.

Don't use this. Use KVM which comes with most distros of Linux. Just install virt-manager so you have a GUI for creating virtual machines.

I install Kali, barebones, with GNOME (get off my back, I like GNOME). The benefit being a Debian Rolling release, that I feel I have the most control over. The tradeoff is the initial software to install and configure.
I've been running the same installation for the past 7 years. Nothing to complain about. I've been using Linux, daily, since 2003; this is only to say that I've tried several distros.
I also run Windows 11 Pro on a separate machine. I also run MacOS 26.01 in VMware, on that Windows machine.
The way I see it: Linux, Mac, Windows, any operating system is shitty at things and good at things.
