I wear bowties sometimes as a 30-something clearly probably autistic dude who manages an independent bookstore in a moderately humid climate who typically wears thrifted retro menswear. Obviously this places me within the broad category of "gay and punchable" but my general impression is that /tv/ and other media disproportionately use bowties as a visual shorthand for "dorky tryhard" and so long as you aren't leaning into full ironic Portland hipster and keep the colors and textures reserved it comes across as more "intentionally eccentric" than "total fucking cunt" to most people. Also, only ever wear self tie bowties. Pre-tied clip on one's look like SHIT.

Bowties look good in black or white tie. It's very difficult to style one in color without looking like a dork or a millenial gay woodchucker
