be me 23, biologist, go /out/ constantly current aesthetic is basically "Decathlon NPC" or hiking gear. soft shell jacket, cargo pants, field runners etc.
want to upgrade to actual field specialist / utilitarian techwear not trying to look like a cyberpunk ninja or do some stolen valor military larp just want practical gear that looks distinct and authoritative love pockets because i carry bunch of stuff with me.
is it possible to mix surplus military gear with hiking tech without looking like a school shooter? how do I elevate this look from "weekend hiker" to something authentic?

I wouldn't go down the milsurp route unless you really know what you're doing with that, much too easy to dip into esoteric weirdo territory at best. If you are a professional field scientist just add a bit of workwear to your hiking nerd stuff so you look like you're actually doing a job.
