It's not too difficult, there are a few basic crafting skills you should teach yourself. Learn to hand stitch, and if you have access to a sewing machine learn how use that too. Learn how to set hardwear pieces like rivets, grommets, and studs. Learn how to paint. Making stencils is easy, but learn some freehand techniques too. YouTube is full of videos and tutorials about this stuff, just search. You may want to learn some leather crafting skills too, but that's a whole rabbit hole.
The other part is more design focused. Look at things that inspire you and examine how they are put together. Think about how you could replicate it. Think about how you could them incorporate elements of it into other things you like. Draw out your ideas, determine what skills and materials you will require.
