fucks sake spent an hour and a shameful amount of money arguing with Claude about the geometry of my woodworking projectturns out that when I said "curve" it decided all on its own and for no reason that it HAS to be a circular arc, which ended up imposing constraints that made the rest of the geometry not work, and it was just spinning in circles trying to reinterpret things to get it to work and throwing the resulting nonsense at me. with that completely baseless assumption out of the way, everything worksAI really is just awful at spatial reasoning and geometry, I ask its opinion to make sure I'm not missing anything obvious and ot ends up with shit like this

I bought some rubberized plates for my home gym, and the problem is that they have this strong rubber smell (If you've been to a gym, you know it).Is there a way to get rid of that? I've tried scrubbing it with hot soapy water, and it kinda worked, but the smell came back after a day or so.

How much airflow does a fridge/freezer combo actually need. My fridge fits in the nook extremely snugly so I figure I should put some holes in the back of the side walls so it can get some airflow. The manual just says "5cm around each side". If I wack a 10x20cm or so hole in the top and the bottom it should be fine, right?

What do you guys think is the proper ratio of TSP and water to prepare a wood sided house for painting? I bought Savogran TSP-PF which says it's formulated for heavy duty cleaning and preparing painted surfaces for repainting. Their ratio is 1/4 cup TSP to 2 gallons warm water. Now that the house is spot primed and ready for paint I see a more common ratio is 1/2 cup TSP per 2 gallons, which might mean I used only half strength. Will this cause any potential adhesion problems for the new paint, like not dulling or etching the old paint enough? What's on there is 15 year old latex satin which looked pretty dull already. I ran a palm sander with some 80 grit across the clapboards today to try and knock down any obvious sheen I could see but that won't get everything. Had a thought to mix up a stronger ratio and rewash the house tomorrow but don't want to cause any issues with the oil based primer. At least I'm only doing one side of the house so it wouldn't be a total screw up.

What's a decent budget detector? I would rather go ahead and spend a little more and not have to upgrade when I decide I like it because I'm pretty sure I'll enjoy it

I recently purchased a wall mounted cable machine for my home gym. My gym is in a basement with floating walls. The top anchor point is securely fastened and fine, but with a floating wall the bottom anchor point was connected to a "loose" stud and I was pulling my wall outwards. Would it work to have some kind of 3/4 piece of plywood, attach the bottom anchor point to that plywood, then fasten the plywood to a "middle" portion of the stud and neighboring studs? I would also keep the upper stud fastened of course.

What is the name of this light blue/purplish foam insulation? It’s installed in Europe probably late 90s. My upstairs gable wall has 40mm of it, and I’m not sure if I should replace it or leave it be

Where’s a good place to start looking for tandem axles for a hauling trailer? I rebuilt an old junker but don’t want to reinstall the likely mobile home axles that were on it. Was hoping for 5k lbs apiece out of them but that’s probably not realistic

how difficult is it to chop through some steel square tube (50x50x1.5mm)? I tried to call a fab shop rather than buying something to cut metal with but the guy was so profoundly retarded that it's looking more worth to just do it myself than deal with someone who spends all day inhaling fumes I've worked with an angle grinder but I think due to how accurate I need to be here I might have to get a chop saw or something thereaboutsis it completely necessary to go and buy more power tools ? I have a power saw but I read somewhere that the RPM (4500) may be sketchy with the carbide discsif whatever I read was retarded that would be good to know also

I want to build a small covered deck for grilling. I don't want to use concrete since we'll probably re-do the backyard or move in a few years, so I'll likely use these Camo blocks.Ground level deck, 2x4 construction. With 4x4 posts anchored on ground spikes and fastened to the deck frame. I will probably put in balusters and rails along 3 sides for extra rigidity. Will the deck itself hold up with this design? How should I connect the 4 posts so they can hold stringers and a light PVC corrugated panel roof? I'd like to avoid putting posts in the middle of the span.I'm stuck with these dimensions but any tips for a better design are appreciated.

Been posting elsewhere on /diy/ this past two months or so, mostly over in the electric thread. Completely new to any sort of renovation. My usual process is to read about it, watch some videos on it, and ask some anons. With those three sources I have so far learned enough to get it done. Finished replacing the outlets and switches. My next step is to hang curtain rods. These seem to be the key takeaways:>4"-6" from the edge of the trim (to the sides and above) >Drill holes for drywall anchors >Drill the brackets into the anchorsTools I have that I will need: >Cordless drill >Bits >Hardware >LevelSeems fairly simple. Anything else to look out for? Are there any guidelines for the size of drill bit to use for drywall anchors? Logic suggests I ought to pick a bit one size smaller than the anchor. I realize questions this simple probably deserve their own thread for things even more basic than this one (/braindead/?). Thanks in advance for any responses.

I got one of those bunnings wooden panels to make a desk out of. It's "pre-finished" and it's got some patches that are tacky. What's the best way to clear those bits up without trashing whatever finish there is on it that's actually cured or the wood underneath?

Here's a couple dumb questions. I have neglected my showerhead for a while and the hard water ended up clogging a few streams and now my baseboard near my bath tub is rotting. I am assuming the wall is also molding but I am too retard to rip it off and check it. Should I just nail the shit down or buy some new sheet rock and attempt to patch the area before installing a new baseboard? Other q probably a bunch of qs but some of my ducts are blowing a lot of dark dust/dirt and there is some buildup on my ceiling in some rooms. My spare room is worse than others but other rooms there is nothing on the textured ceiling near the duct. I barely dust my ceiling as I am once again retard. Not sure how long ago the duct work was replaced in my home as I just got it a few years ago. Should I be worried about this?

If I'm a poorfag who cannot afford a dentist's visit and I have the beginnings of a cavity on one of my molars. What's the best way to do a DIY filling until I can afford to have it done properly? Would sterilizing it with alcohol or hydrogen peroxide, then applying a drop of super glue work? I read that this is a bad idea because bacteria can (and will eventually) infiltrate under the super glue, and that the tooth will continue to deteriorate underneath, but I don't have a lot of options at the moment. I have basic hygiene bits & bobs and am currently living out of my car, so my budget is limited, but I could get some cheap supplies at a drug store.

I need to replace this electric water heater. Only thing I'm unsure about is the T&P valve. New heaters have it on the side. Can I just run a stainless steel line? It'd look terrible. What do?

I'm trying to expand the mortice of our aluminum doors so that I can insert a Zigbee sensor inside to sense if the doors are locked, but it seems I'm not using the correct tool for the job.First attempt was drilling (as evidenced by the two holes), the idea being to drill multiple holes then snap the remainder off, but realized that it's a double-layer of aluminum which took long to drill into, and I already broke one drill bit trying this out. Next attempt was a cut-off tool with a carbide disc but that also took pretty long and made a horrible job of the hole. I also tried a hand saw but it took forever to go just 1 cm, and the saw kept getting stuck too. What kind of tool should I actually be using? I don't want to spend any more money on my retarded ideas.

Is $16.50/hr decent for a cabinet shop position in Texas with no experience? He said he'd move me up to $18/hr after a month once I get the basics down. When I get to the point where I can do everything myself without him there, then what? I want a bigger piece of the pie.
