I want to build a backyard shed that insulated from outside noises such as planes, traffic, dogs, mowers etc >Stagger stud method >(2x6 plates , 2x4 stud staggered so insulation weaves between) >Rockwool or Sheepwool > Top quality window and door >insulated latch to cover door or window >double layer of drywall It HAS to at be pretty good and blocking all those sounds right? I am going to be pissed if I build it and still hear a damn lawnmower It seems impossible to find someone nearby that has built one like this to go and "test it out" I suppose I could at least find someone with a rockwool 2x6 house and decent windows, and see how loud a lawnmower sounds Hoping one of you guys have some input or experience

Stack up some straw bales around the exterior of your shed and tie them together with bale ties and wire.

>I am going to be pissed if I build it and still hear a damn lawnmower You're going to be pissed. Soundproofing is not easy.Try building your shed with 1 foot thick concrete walls, slab and roof. Maybe that will block all the sound

don't bother moving out. Every time I do, it's always something >dogs >construction sounds >ATVsIt's inescapable

With high density drywall that'll be more than enough that your door and windows and ventilation will be the weak point, but it probably won't be as good as you imagine. You're better off sorting out your brain problems that make noise intolerable for you than trying to engineer the noise away.

I also forgot to mention . I am currently living in an RV which is about as insulated as a vehicle which is shit. So I figure at least the sound proof shed will block some droning traffic out and at least I will have peace at night.

A couple of years ago I got to visit one of the contenders for "quietest room in the world". The engineering of that room was wild and the lengths they went to to reduce sound transmission are no joke. If you want near-total silence, I hope you have lots of money. Sound travels through anything that will vibrate -- and that's everything -- so you need to dampen it at every possible avenue.

Build another shed within the first shed

What about a room in your house lined with acoustic tiles instead of a shed on your yard unless you're looking just to upgrade your cuck shed.

empty egg boxes they sometimes use, but on the outside? of course protected from the elements. dunno. here we have sound proof glass and brick thermal insulation should also do quite a bit. for good or bad, idk

>(2x6 plates , 2x4 stud staggered so insulation weaves between) This isn't as good as two 2x4 walls separated by ~1.5-2" air gap

Hearing protection used at the airport. Add foam ear plugs for added noise cancellation.https://www.honeywellstore.com/store/images/products/large_images/1035104-vs.jpg

Put a shed inside the shed. Or a shed over the shed. It might also help to have the window and door face away from sound sources.

Hey op I just went through this. I'll list the best way first:Separate party wall built in front of outside, insulation, use sonopan, resilient channel, and double drywall (1/2"+5/8") while acoustisealing everything. If you wanna skimp on costs, you can skip the separate wall and just use insulation, sonopan, res channel, and double drywall. I recommend doing the ceiling too

I'm doing a van build and have been doing research on insulation. Here's a greta video I found (chick is hot as fuck too)https://youtu.be/s0xVgUA2IOUBasically nothing compares to closed cell foam insulation, but it off-gasses which can be harmful to breathe. The healthiest and most effective option is sheep's wool. Rockwool is overrated, it can have adverse health effects if breathen (brothe?). Basically we're probably going to find out a lot of this shit is worse than asbestos later on. But certain sheep's wool gives a great rating and is a natural insulator.I'm going with foam board because I need the extra structural support, but it doesn't do much for sound. Different purpose than what you're seeking, there's always trade offs. If you wanted the most sound deadening, go with foam, do it properly at the right temperature, and let it air out for a long time. You can also do multiple layers of different types of insulation.
