I have a bunch of wheely bins the city was trashing and gave away for free that I sort all my stuff in. I'll curb pick and there are a few thrift stores here that scrap anything that doesn't work or isn't sellable. I usually wait until the bins are full but if copper or brass price spikes I'll wheel them on the trailer and take it in.

i have a few bins of various aluminums and copper wire, along with a smaller brass and a tub of #2 copper.I pick up things occasionally along the road or buy auction lots for $1 and score good copper and brass

eurofag here. iron/steel is usually not worth it unless we are talking hundreds of kilos during a reconstruction etc. aluminum and copper are more interesting, but i don't have much of that scrap really. brass, on the other hand is totally worth it (old faucets, valves, connectors). you take these to the le metal recycling center (a scrap yard with buy-back). taking scrap lying near the roads is very rare, as our gypsies take care of all that (and far beyond). up to the situation you have to tell a bank account in the scrap yard, no cash, for you to be traceble. no issue for normal people, but prevents gypsies from stealing manhole covers and cables en masse (usually).

I take a dump trailer load or two of steel in per year. Nothing fancy, just ends and bits and bobs I cut off of other steel when cleaning it up or using it for projects. Do have a bin of copper that I have been sorting into. Should probably take it in sometime. Dead batteries get taken to o'reillys because they will put $10 each onto a gift card which is way better than then the scrapyard pays.Not really worth it for the money, but keeps the scrap cleaned up around the farm and better than paying to dump it at the landfill.

I was collecting a heap of weldable and usable bits of steel in a corner but someone here brought in a skip and decided to "tidy up the yard" while I was away. I think he managed to get about $100 for the lot and thought he'd got a good deal...

I save copper, my state has a $30 limit on cash payouts for it though, to stop tweakers. That'll fit in a bucket, not hard to transport or too gross to put in the car.
