I really shouldn't have started off with a GK that has so many complex parts. I've been sanding and fixing the molds on the hem of the dress, sleeves, and hair strands for a while now. Starting simpler would have been nice...

I caved in and bought a Nero Booth on my recent Japan trip then hauled it back halfway across the world. My baggage handler gave me a smirk when I was checking it in at Haneda, either because he recognized what it was and/or was laughing at the check-in staff politely questioning me on whether or not the box contained explosives or batteries.

Is this thread only for anime garage kits? I've seen some sci-fi GKs that I was interested in. (Does MK still count as GK given how popular they are now?)
The waifu stuff isn't my cup of tea, but props to anyone who assembles kits to the best of their ability.

i bought some keshi the other day and i plan on cloning this one to make some bootleg minis/figures
>painting scheme of Conan, He-man, and the Hulk
i plan on following craftman's video but with some slight differences, i want to use "Mold Star 16 Fast" rather than "Mold Star 15 Slow" to make some quick molds so i dont have to wait hours to find out i fucked up and have to reset. i want to bust them out quick, learn, and improve.
depending on whether or not this pose will work with a simple mold like in the video, i may need to make a 2 part mold instead. but i might do it just to get the experience and feel for both molding techniques
i do want to use hard resin like in craftsman's video (Smooth Cast 65D) since im going to be painting them but there is a more rubbery almost "keshi," or even "rubberball," kind of material that Trent uses (Simpact 60A) that looks pretty fun to use

I always wanted to make my own animu figurine. I attempted to learn blender as part of it. But at a certain point, I can't get pass a hurdle of actually modeling a character and what is also blocking me is that I need to think of a character as something I need to 3D print and at that point, its like I need a completely different tutorial for this kind of shit

A
Anon04/04/26, 18:47No.2984306
I've been doing a lot of research. I'm going to do a practice run of painting styles and shadings on a koto girlpla kit. I know it won't be one to one with an actual GK and I'll have to prime it white to get a similar starting color but I'm pretty excited.
The first actual GK I'll do as a "sacrificial lamb" is an e2046 recast of this. It's a bit much for my actual tastes but I'll be less afraid of mistakes than if it's one I care a lot about. Plus I would imagine shading the bodystocking is going to be fun.
I already have 5 in a backlog not counting her. It's dangerous how cheap the e2046 recasts are, I'm scared to order more since I already have a massive plamo backlog. But then if I don't order, things I want won't get made. What an evil system. I wish I could get more legit ones but so many of them are not possible to find anymore or cost 300 bucks.

What do you guys think of east vs west in painting style?
East tends to keep the base white and then slowly build up color and shading.
West meanwhile primes the whole thing black and works the opposite way. Instead of shading, it's usually highlighting. They also tend to use brush washes which look real fugly during the WIP but somehow work out after the final coats.
From what I can tell east is better for anime-like skin and figures while west is better for more realistic figures. Clothing and accessories in particular look pretty damn good using the prime black method.

I had no idea that a dedicated GK gen existed. I usually do a lot of maschinen krieger and 1/35th scale military subjects; tanks and figures, but I want to try my hand at GK. I finally got around to getting past the learning curve with my airbrush I got for christmas. what do you guys recommend for a starter kit? maker? brands? etc.
unfortunately the stuff I really want is super expensive and old; pic related.

Can I get some advice painting metallics? I wanted to try Kaleido primer and metallic paint but these are water based. If I let the metallic layer cure over 24 hours can I use Mr. Color Gundam colors (solvent based) on top, or would they still dissolve the layers beneath? I don't know if Kaleido paints are closer in composition to the Aqueous or Acrysion lines.

Don't forget treasure fest online is happening!
I picked up the atom figure I thought wouldn't get sold again after wonfes because the license wouldn't let them sell online but I'm so happy they renewed(?) it and got permission to sell it again.
I'm can't wait to paint him. It won't be sold again so I'm so excited to have it without having to rely on a recast. Only 12k too!

I bought some of this and it has been greatly disappointing. It seems to only work when I also have wire pinning two larger pieces together. It does not work well with holding magnets in place, and it does not fuse two small pieces together even after several days. It's almost like it needs an activator or something. Should I just buy a tube of regular Testor hobby cement or is there a better product for garage kits?

I have come into possession of some figures from 1983. They are small, being sized around 1/24 scale. I lack an airbrush and ventilation for an airbrush is not possible with my current living accommodations (though money is no object in airbrush purchases, I am saving for a house in cash and have reached 95% of this goal and once that is done, I shall finally be able to get a proper set-up).I wanted suggestions on how to go about doing small scale figures:
>Black base
>Flesh
>Hair
>Clothing
>Clothing details
>Drybrushing of light effects
Is this feasible doing brush only with thinned coats so as to require 2-3 layers of paint? Thank you.
