The problem is the lack of roads. It really is ass trying to make a vehicle that is going to be %100 on mud and rough roads that is pedal powered. If I could find a chain and some gears I might try for a bike with a low and a high gear, but that is fiddley. Given the load it looks like he needs a trailer frankly. A 4 wheeled trailer and anything to give him a gear ratio would be the next step.

make a track, system becomes nearly automated as you could just push it down the hill and put people on the up hill sections, this establishs trade depots and ecconomic centers at the bottom of hills like early mayans. wood wheels on wood tracks has like material this reduces friction reduces varibles and improves timing. unfortunatly this removes logistics from the proletariate and gives it to the bugousie.
the chinnesse would skate large blocks on the froozen rivers capitilizing on the already establish trade depots created from silt deposited on the bends of the river.
tldr: large logistic conglomerates not independent truckers.
