Haven't seen any of them since each released and I fell off them around five or six years ago, but I recall The New Frontier being really cool.

I really wish All Star was better. It had some nice moments but on the whole missed the point and even cut out some of the bigger stuff you'd expect to see. If they started doing them in parts here it would have worked way better.

There was a trilogy of Batman and Damien Robin films and they have one hundred percent blended into one soup for me. They did two more with Damien in the Teen Titans that I remember better but the three ones with Batman are just "something with the Court of Owls and Deathstroke possibly, they were on the rooftops a lot".

I thought the Dark Knight Returns two-parter was decent, but I was really disappointed they had Conan just playing himself as the talk show host instead of David Letterman, kind of ruined the whole mid-80's time period and setting of the story to do that.

I still need to watch this, I have heard very mixed things but from what I have seen the costume designs look pretty authentic (aside from ironically the actual superhero outfits for Batman, Ivy, and Catwoman, and Moctezuma II), and the architecture looks excellentI can definitely tell that the production was budget, though, and clearly it was not pushed as much as the Batman Ninja projects, sadlyt. obsessive Mesoamerican history and archeology nerd

The Laira Omoto story in the Green Lantern anthology movie convinced me that there should be a Lantern series that just follows the alien Lanterns around dealing with space problems, with the human Lanterns only making brief cameo appearances.

A
Anon09/09/26, 04:32No.155390299
They could probably get away with a cheaper animation style for Justice given it's a more light hearted story. Kingdom Come's more profound tone really demands a certain visual flair. Justice do what they did for 2 worlds and Doom. It's basically a scaled up Super friends story.

I didn’t like the DCAMU minus the Damian and Teen Titan stuff. Never got around to watching the Tomorrowverse and don’t see the point now since Gunn scrapped it to unify all the mediums under his DCU. I think most DC animated movies are filler slop with some good exceptions like Crisis on Two Earths, Flashpoint, All-Star. I think what happened to Young Justice is a tragedy. It had a ton of potential and fell apart season after season, 4 was just awful. I greatly appreciate the DCAU, probably highest rated cartoon next to ATLA and Arcane S1, but it’s not the bible to me (where some people have attached it to the DCU despite there being zero indication of it going in that direction). Mainly because DC isn’t just a single product, it has delivered many good concepts over decades.

The pioneers gave up their safety, their comfort, and sometimes their lives to build our new west. They were determined to make the new world strong and free - an example to the world. Some would say that those struggles are all over. That all the horizons have been explored. That all the battles have been won. That there is no longer an American frontier. And we stand today on the edge of a new frontier. The frontier of unknown opportunities and perils. Beyond that frontier are uncharted areas of science. Unsolved problems of peace and war. Unconquered pockets of ignorance and prejudice. I'm asking each of you to be pioneers towards that New Frontier. My call is to the young in heart, regardless of age. Can we carry through in an age where we will witness not only new breakthroughs in weapons of destruction, but also a race for mastery of the sky and the rain, the ocean and the tides, the far side of space, and the inside of men's minds? All mankind waits upon out decision. A whole world waits to see what we shall do. And we cannot fail that trust, and we cannot fail to try.

I like most of these movies fine, but my issue with the "DC Animated Original Movies" as a whole is that vast majority of them are either Batman or Superman films with absolutely none of the other charaters in the DC universe utilized at all. Like the appeal of these movies *used* to be that you could experience the stories and characters that could never be adapted for cinemas because they were too niche. But now we're in an era where characters like Aquaman, Shazam, and Blue Beetle have big budget live-action Hollywood movies. By contrast it feels like the animation department are actually the ones playing it safe by sticking mostly to the Big 2, even though they have no reason to.
