What matters is the canon, which has been painfully dragged out over 30 years but a "man" that doesn't really care about it anymore, yet is constantly pestered to continue it. This is also a man that rips off most of "his" ideas from other authors and jpop celebrities, and has shown himself to be quite vulnerable to peer pressure.

is this the panel people are freaking out about? they're just kids going on a hike through the forest. they're friends because gon and noko are two of the only kids on the island. there is zero implication of anything romantic happening here, if anything it looks like Gon is several years older and basically just showing a younger kid around the place. he's not even looking in her direction
