What is the most ass backwards advice you've ever seen someone give a new or inexperienced Lolita? From encouraging buying on SHEIN to suggesting Argyle with a pin striped JSK and good ol' defending replicas, let's hear it'

"Don't worry about looking ita" feels like really bad advice because you should still want to try styling something well even when you're starting out.I think the biggest problem that a lot of newbies have is that many new Lolitas don't even do basic research before trying to get into the fashion. /r/Lolita gets flooded with the same basic "I know literally nothing" newbie questions that can be answered by a basic google all. the. time.

to be fair though what Lolita influencer wouldn't be annoying af to other Lolitas since their appeal is largely to newbies wanting to learn about the fashion, seasoned Lolitas don't really need "What I Would Have Done Differently If I Started Out In Lolita Now" videos

Telling newbie that lolita can be "affordable". I know it comes from a place of good faith, and bc we don't want the community to die out, but let's be real. In the state lolita is atm, the only "affordable" lolita is whether low to mid quality Taobao (which is still ugly), low quality handmade, or just low quality anything. I don't even want to recommend Taobao to anyone even tho that's what I bought the most when I was starting PRECISELY bc I saw how mediocre it looks compared to the brand I got later - I mean even the most expensive C-lolita 99% of times still looks tacky ASF, is made in fabrics that are annoying to wear, and has that weird construction that would make it "fine" to wear even without a petti (tho it wouldn't be considered lolita anymore)
While I'm still pissed at the scalped prices on the second hand market, I still see a lot of pieces that are sold at an acceptable price. However I want the newcomers to understand that it's a hobby that WILL get expensive if you're really serious about it and don't just want to look like a cosplaying clown. People will call us classiest for that opinion, and that's fine. Lolita shouldn't be for people who aren't willing to spend the $ to look good
