Texas thread died about a week ago or so... RIP, not OP of the previous Texas thread but the anon that had revived it briefly in October. Meant to revive it again this month in-time for it to reach 1-year-plus status, but had totally slipped my mind and was already too late by the time I had noticed... oh well, let's try this 1-year challenge all over again, shall we? UPCOMING NOTABLE EVENTS (for the next six months): Anime Frontier - Dec 12-14 Ecchi Expo - Dec 12-14 Ikkicon - Jan 9-11 Ushicon / Komoricon - Feb 6-8 (both in Austin, Komoricon happening on Feb 7 only) AnimeVerse Houston - Feb 13-15 WeebCon - Apr 3-5 Anime Dallas - Apr 17-19 Otaku Odyssey - May 8-10 Riverwalk Anime - May 23-24 A-Kon - Press X to Doubt (World Cup will be in town during Jun-Jul) Discuss topics about Texas cons here, including ones that have have happened recently such as Anime Impulse Dallas.

OP of the old thread here, once again thanks for taking care of our kid while I stepped out to buy smokes. I noticed that the old thread died but didn't feel like reviving it since /cgl/ is turning into a board for zoomers to farm engagement judging by all the new threads that don't use the existing generals. I was gonna ask why Dreamhack was left out, but I looked it up and turns out they can't get KBH center for the next few years due to rennovation so that's lame.>Anime Impulse Dallas Was that the one where the entire con is a dealer room? I remember speculating several years ago that cons might devolve into just dealer rooms where there's also a rave, I guess the future is now.

>A-Kon - Press X to DoubtCan people fucking give up on A-Kon already? All they're doing is jerking each other off, living in their former glory days. The claims on their return are greatly exaggerated. No angel investor who wants to remember their glory days is going to give them a million dollars to return. It's about to get a lot worse in DFW before it gets better when it comes to anime cons in the region.

Opening up the rodeo arena and shoving the snack stands and tables in there was a good move. It'd be nice if they could get some food trucks in there or right outside, feels like just about every restaurant next to the convention center is a hotel restaurant.

Should I go to Ikkicon? I want to budget smarter but I have enough money for once. I have outfits but can't afford a really impressive cosplay. The $75 for 5 sealed events looks so tempting

Aaaaaannnnddd Fandom Events just canceled another one of their cons (Anime New Mexico), and surprise, they're not even issuing any refunds for those that bought tickets! Another clear sign that the company is in shambles and they're now crumbling under their hubris

Just found out that Weebcon went back to the Gaylord this year. I'm happy about it because I like that venue more than the ICC, but also kinda surprised this happened; didn't they stop holding the convention there because the Gaylord had some problem with them?
A
Anon03/30/26, 22:14No.10969541
Weebcon has become the same trap that Anime Matsuri would pull every year. They would announce this amazing guest list, people would arrive, and then it would be horribly organized. People flood their socials that they are a terrible convention, rinse, repeat. After attending Weebcon for multiple years, I don't care if they announced that God was attending, as I would not go back. I expect to see many of the same issues, as they don't seem to learn at all.People are dumb.

I know /cgl/ is dead, but I'm planning on San Japan this year, but would anyone like to start talking now and maybe plan something for it? Haven't cosplayed since high school but wouldn't mind doing something as a group.I can make a small server if anyone is interested and isn't already in a group.I'm local as well if it helps.

It May already guys, anything to report from Anime Dallas, Anime Tyler, Otaku Odyssey, etc.? Think we'll get an update from A-Kon this month? It's been a year since their last update. Also, Uma Musume meetups and events outside of cons have been popping off in our state as of recent, so it's not only happening in California and Florida. A cosplay race and meetup is set to happen at Sam Houston Race Park next Saturday (May 23rd).

We are less than 2 months away, and people say AM isn't happening. The convention center won't confirm their reservation. AM assures it is happening. Who is lying?

Since AM likes to invite controversial people, they should invite Feet Juice girl.

OP here, hope you guys been having a great America Day, I'm back with the next list of cons that will cover until the end of the year!UPCOMING NOTABLE EVENTS (for the next six months): Kawacon - Jul 3-5 (currently happening lul) Dream Con - Jul 10-12 Delta H Con - Jul 17-19 Anime Matsuri - Jul 23-26 Classic Game Fest - Jul 24-26 QuakeCon - Aug 7-9 Anime North Texas - Aug 7-9 Colossalcon Texas - Aug 21-23 (I won't mention it by name, but there's somehow another anime con happening in Austin that same weekend) San Japan - Sep 4-6 Fan Expo Dallas - Sep 11-13 Tokyo X - Sep 26-27 Anime Fiesta - Oct 2-4 Anime Impulse Dallas - Nov 14-15 Anime Frontier - Dec 4-6This time I included a few that weren't exclusively anime cons since there was a bit of criticism on that last time. Feel free to talk about the other Texas cons I may have left out going into the latter half of the year, these are just the ones that stood out to me personally. 'Aight, let's keep this thread going for AT LEAST five more months!

According to multiple sources, Anime Matsuri is so broke that they're already begging vendors to re-up for 2027. They have to do this because they have a large down payment owed to the GRB in order to reserve next year's dates. Please tell everyone that instead of giving the Leigh's any more money that the right thing to do is not pay them a cent for 2027. Let this convention die a horrible death like it deserves.
A
Anon07/16/26, 03:28No.10973710
Anime Matsuri is showing how desperate they are by saying in their ads that 40,000 people will show up. Wasn't it 74,000 at one point? I will be snickering when the photos pop up, showing the empty halls.

There's like at least 4 different anime conventions happening between the San Antonio and Austin areas this weekend, and I'm willing to bet that Colossalcon Texas will be the one to come out on top.

Looks like San Japan's schedule is up, I'm able to see it on their site but somehow am unable to add it to Guidebook. This is the first time in over a decade of going to cons that I've seen someone fuck up a schedule on Guidebook like this lol

went to san japan. where was the loli stuff? I think I saw 2 and a half stands in total and 2 of them were ran by black dealers with sanitized stuff like gawr gura and blue archive which was interesting. also, i didn't recognize any of the artist, it look like most came from twitter and they were all selling keychains and stickers. why would i want anyone to know i like anime alot? this was my first con and I didnt recognize most of the anime that were on display. Did anyone see the chris-chan cosplayer?

My local labor day weekend con (saboten) is a little bit dying. Is San Japan worth the short flight? Better than Anime San Diego?
A
Anon09/08/26, 17:50No.10975778
San Japan was fun this year, though I might skip the next one just because I need another break from going to SJ every year. I'm not sure if it's because I spent more time in the board games area this year than usual, but it feels like there were fewer normies and more deformed and awkward nerds at the con this year. I had several times in the artist alley where I was trying to get the seller's attention to buy a print and was ignored, and this was also my first con where I ran into multiple people that smelled like literal feces as opposed to just smelling like sweat. Like I legit thought I was going to get pink eye at some point from interacting with these people.Did something happen to scare off some of the normies this year? Has anime lost the mandate of heaven it's had for the past decade? Or did I just happen to run into fewer normies this time?
