not really.. eh. wear whatever the fuck you want, truly no one gives a shit unless its like a ahegao sweater.. then no girls will want to be near you. if you're a fucking weird slimebag people will avoid you no matter what you wear.i personally think its easier to chat someone up if they're also in cosplay cause they're not just a pornhub basedboy and you actually have a hobby in common than some fuck who watches demon slayer and has a hentai sticker on his honda.

Funny, I always see those guys standing around alone obviously hoping somebody will talk to them, and all of the girls I used to run with at cons (when I had a GF and her whole pack of friends) used to laugh at them and talk about them being creepy.

actually pretty spot on. The shirtless "buff" guys usually don't get attention from people because these dudes really just want to act hard, which actually does the job of actually driving people away. People tend to gravitate towards fun and cool, i.e. anyone with a cool mask or cosplay that's really in rn, etc, gundam, or ironic like a buff sailor moon.

damn i'm in my 30s and I never had money to go to cons when i was in my 20s (plus i was fat back then) but wanted to start cosplaying. I already have social anxiety to the point where I couldn't even ask anyone for photos at AX so this thread just makes me wanna give up and not bother if people are gonna look at me that way or have that attitude. It doesn't help that i have no friends who are into cosplay either so i'd be rolling solo awkwardly

This is true and I'm going to take this a step further: very few people like masculinity at these conventions at all unless you are very, very attractive and are playing some sort of shirtless SERIOUS character or one who shows off physique in some form.I have cosplayed as both men and women. I am a guy but I look very feminine. Feminine enough that when put next to other crossplayers I look more like a woman than them, but when put next to women I look like a guy in a dress. I also do cosplay as bishonen and similar characters. I get WAY more attention from both guys and girls when crossplaying than when looking like a prettyboy. I get none looking like a bishonen. At the same con I often bring two outfits and wear both on different days, getting a shitload of attention as a girl and none as a guy, even if a feminine guy.Masculinity in general is not cared about at all and is often looked down upon when it comes to fashion and showing off situations. This goes for cons, this goes for real life.
