Why do all baby animals seemingly have that innate desire to play but then have it fade as they become adults?

It's just instinct to practice all sorts of body functions. Brain rewards it with happy feels. Later this isn't needed anymore because they do the real thing and become boring.

I assume fear plays a role, baby animals tend to be more trusting and less wary/cautious compared to adults. It's easier to let loose and have fun when fear isn't weighing you down.
