Can someone explain milksnake taxonomy to me, so im looking at milk snakes specifically hondurans. >wikipedia lists honduran as Lampropeltis triangulum hondurensis >guatemalan as Lampropeltis abnorma >lne reptile seller near me has one for sale listed as Lampropeltis abnorma hondurensis so what does that mean? I keep finding conflicting info and chatgpt is saying that all central american milk snakes are nowadays abnormas and then what used to be honduran is just a locality so idk what to trust

Anyone got some good eastern box turtle info? Im doing my research currently, but would be greatly appreciative if anyone has some good sources on these guysSo long story short, ive found a box turtle outside, and I am planning on taking it in. Long story is, I saw a box turtle yesterday, and normally I just appreciate the site and let the go on their way. However this one just stayed in the same spot for around 8 hrs, being shelled up and not moving. It was overcast, so not sure if he was basking or not, but it seemed stressed. Last night, I moved it under our covered porch to a quiet dry area, before the rain came through. I also gave it some veggies from my garden, but it hasnt ate much if at all. I did a better inspection this morning, and it looks like the turtle lost a back leg a while ago. Given the condition, and my area is starting to cool down, I was going to try and take the little fella in. If this is normal box turtle behavior, I will just let it go on its way, but if not then I am happy to help it out. Given it only has 3 legs, and the cold is coming, the turtles chances are getting slim. Thanks for reading my blog, and pic related but not the turtle i found

Anyone ITT breed for a living? I breed fish right now and it’s great and I love fish but I’m kinda tired of dealing with the water itself, i.e “brewing” the perfect concoctions for getting ideal breeding parameters. And I kinda want to work with animals I can actually touch. Are reptiles/amphibians better to work with? And better money?

So I decided to get experimental. I bought some Purina puppy treats for my feeder crickets. 20% protein, 6.5% fat. The thought was that giving them access to a protein source would stop die-offs and decrease cannibalism. They were actively fighting over the treats. I had to put in more. Just need to be careful, as too much protein or too much fat both cause serious issues when using them as feeders for reptiles or amphibians.

i'm obsessed with the idea of putting bugs into an empty plastic box and having them create their own world by making soil capable of sustaining plants through layers of poop and rock erosion particles but at that point you could just put in like a succulent or something that would be fine just sitting in some rocks and it wouldn't be special so that kind of kills the magic of the idea when it'd be so simple
