I wish we got proper cicadas like that here. I was really happy when I found a big cicada in a protected area in my country, and it was a species that doesn't even sing properly.

This is a "quiet" year. Only annual species hatched. None of the periodical broods cycled this year.
Brood XXII comes up next year and XXIII in 2028.

2 months ago or so, cicadas would sing pretty much all fucking day en masse to the point of your ears ringing. now, they're quiet again, but every once in a while i hear a singular cicada sing for just a little bit in the distance. whenever that lone cicada sounds off, i just can't help but wonder if the little shit overslept and missed the big cicada sex party, and is now wondering why no one's responding to his screams
