Sea turtle populations can be recovered almost immediately. Literally within like a year to a decade because they produce so many offspring and you can actually choose which sex they mature into. They're very easy to care for too. And the claims of them not being able to find their spawning grounds is fucking bullshit that's totally fabricated. But government agencies will actively prevent anyone from doing so, because all so-called environmental or animal protection agencies under the jurisdiction of the United States government work for lobbying groups and fishing companies, specifically shrimp trawlers HATE sea turtles, because they significantly impacts their profits.

It's a general rule because the average schmuck isn't educated enough to determine what actions are ecologically good or bad (even scientists fuck this up) and will always default to "protecting" the "cuter" or "weaker" animal. But predators are often ecologically far more important than their prey, at least on an individual level.

People are far more willing to conserve a natural world that isn't hostile towards their interests. At least shaping nature means preserving some. The scale of human activity was never great enough compared to what deer can do to millions of acres of forest. All of the predators in an ecosystem are NATURAL, AND NECESSARY to maintain the current state of the ecosystem.And in those last 5 words are why it didn't matter. Removing wolves objectively changed the state of the ecosystem. But it did not cause it to collapse. It replaced it with another type of ecosystem and animal populations left, arrived, grew, and shrank to fit the new state caused by overpopulated deer and elk. It was totally fine for us, and it was totally fine for life in general. I suppose that in the end, the same amount of animals lived and died over the same after the ecosystem adjusted to wolf removal. Adding wolves back was in fact restoring the ecosystem to its original state, but the human modification didn't turn the ecosystem into a wasteland. It turned a few woods into something closer to grassland.It is totally fine to shape an ecosystem as we see fit. Do you want to live around wolves? No. Not even the wolves (dogs) want to live around wolves. If the sea turtle population needs supported leave it to the wildlife biologists to decide that it does and how to support it.
