Your ideas are fine, I just would've expected someone with ambition on the same scale to show up by now even if Sturgeon's Law kicks in and they can't stick the landing, and I haven't really seen that. I will say that I don't really see having to introduce the characters to each other as much of a problem or limitation, since the audience has to be introduced to them regardless.
