I used to be a part of a project like this, like 30 ideas guys (including me) and then like 3 people that actually did stuff. Unsurprisingly it went nowhere. I'm not sure how far you could rope along someone in today's world where most people know their worth but it's probably still possible.

From what I know there’s a massive oversupply of 3D artists so people are desperate to stand out from the crowd. The thinking is that they’ll have something to put on the CV.

Usually people do this type of volunteer work for free mod projects, but nowadays there are these opportunists who want to use that free labor for their own profit

see if they were smart, they would say its a highly paid position, but then make the application process different for each applicant, give each applicant a different part of the game to develop, then you eventually get everything made for free and they all think it was part of the application process. Tell them also the game is about anti-racism, but make it an extremely racist game in real life. get commie fags to work for free, release nigger killer simulator, profit.
