Weirdly I can sculpt on a 2 million+ poly mesh just fine, but the second I start trying to texture paint on an image bigger than 1024^2 Blender begins pissing and shitting itself until it eventually crashes.
I think it just has a bunch of strange, hardware-defendant hangups from years of unmanaged bloat.
