i mean a maya license is like 2% of the salary for a 3d artist, providing basic benefits like healthcare is going to cost way more than that. did they really think using blender was going to save more than a rounding error in their operating expenses? no wonder they went bust

Gainax is being dissolved because its management created Fukushima Gainax, renamed Gaina, renamed Benten Film, and diverted all the assets they could before Anno and other rightholder and shareholders could stop them, emptying Gainax of its substance and money. This doesn't have anything to do with the software they use and Benten Film is, in fact, doing fine.
