Anyhow, as anons mentioned before me, Maya and Blender are very similar at this point.
If you are a general user exploring and tinkering with 3D, not doing any high end production work whatsoever (which I assume, because otherwise you wouldn't ask this question), then Blender is definitely a good option. It provides you all the tools you need and also has a large library of free extensions accessible that can make certain tasks even easier.You could also pirate Maya, which probably many do who are starting out. Though, I would not recommend it.Whichever software you pick, the quality of your work is dependent on your experience and understanding of how 3D works, not necessarily the tools you use.
